Fetty Wap Plays 'Trap Queen' Second Time After Getting Tangled Up in Hot 100 Crowd
Fetty Wap hit the Billboard Hot 100 Fest on a very hot Sunday (Aug. 23) afternoon just hours after slamming MediaTakeOut for reporting that he was jumped in Washington, D.C., the prior evening (in an Instagram video, Wap categorically denied the report.)
The New Jersey rapper had a separate issue to deal with at the Hot 100 Fest, however, but he handled it with class and aplomb. He drew the largest audience of the weekend for a side stage, and when he dropped "Trap Queen," the crowd went insane. A little too crazy, actually -- after he jumped into the crowd, a couple girls got caught up in the rush when the fans pushed toward the stage. That temporarily shut down his finale for about a minute and a half. After confirming the girls were okay -- it seems ankles were injured and were treated -- Fetty said he was sorry they got tangled up in the rush and reprised "Trap Queen" for a second time in their honor, performing the first verse a cappella.
In addition to the double dose of "Trap Queen," Fetty performed his three other hit singles: "My Way," "679" and the love ballad "Again," which drew the second loudest sing-along of the set.
He also performed a few tracks that have popped up on his SoundCloud, all of which sounded just as satisfying as the hits, even if they didn't attract the same sing-alongs.
Extreme moshing aside, the beachside set felt like a well-earned victory lap for Wap. More than any new hitmaker in recent hip-hop history, Fetty Wap is a dude with the Midas touch -- he's become the first rapper in history to have his first four charting singles simultaneously hit the top 10 of Hot Rap Songs. With that Billboard feat until his belt, it was fitting Fetty would hit the first Billboard Hot 100 Festival to celebrate his accomplishments with an adoring crowd.
