Why Didn't Skrillex Perform at Grammys?
EDM titans Skrillex, Diplo, A-Trak and Armand Van Helden (of Duck Sauce) hit the Grammys together in full force last night, representing electronic music's massive 2011 takeover. But while Skrillex was raking in the awards as DJ/producers David Guetta and Deadmau5 performed on a banner night for dance music, the wub-master's stage absence felt a little puzzling.
Speaking with Billboard, the "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" DJ revealed that although he was offered a performance, time constraints pressured him to turn it down.
"I'm leaving for tour tomorrow and there wasn't enough time for what I wanted to do, prepare," revealed Skrillex. "This wasn't enough time for me to where I felt it fit in right." When asked what he was up to during the Grammys, he responded, "Just chillin'."
"I feel like when you do a performance here, you want to be able to watch it in 10 years and be like, 'I did this,'" agreed A-trak.
"Maybe next time we'll all do some 'wickity-wickity,'" joked Skrillex, vocalizing a record scratch.
Last night was a huge one for Skrillex, as the 24 year-old walked away with three Grammys, including Best Electronic/Dance Album, and was pranked by fellow DJ Deadmau5. The mouse-masked Canadian sported a t-shirt with Skrillex's personal cell phone number with a caption that read "u mad bro?" Judging by his wins and playful responses on Twitter, he didn't seem so.
