The 2014 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) spark major sales action, as the May 18 ABC broadcast's performances spurred 1.58 million song downloads in the week ending May 25 (according to Nielsen SoundScan).

The 20 songs performed during the show that were also available for purchase combined to sell 1.58 million. That sum includes the two new songs that were released in the days after the show: Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood's "Somethin' Bad" and Robin Thicke's "Get Her Back."

Looking only at the 18 performed songs that were previously available, they sold 1.43 million in the week ending May 25 -- a gain of 14 percent over the previous week (1.26 million). That beats the overall digital song market's 5 percent increase for the week.

Slicing and dicing the data even further: Because the BBMAs occurred on a Sunday, the final day of SoundScan's tracking week, the show's impact is distributed in two separate weeks. Thus, to get the full picture, one should examine the two weeks ending May 18 and May 25, as compared to the two weeks previous (May 4 and May 11).

Of the BBMAs' performed songs, there were 17 that have been available since the week ending May 4. Combined, those 17 songs sold 1.41 million downloads in the two weeks ending May 25 -- up 13 percent compared to the two weeks leading up to the show (ending May 11).

Some of the BBMAs' biggest song gainers for that two week period after the show: Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX (570,000 vs. 438,000; up 30 percent), Jason Derulo's "Wiggle," featuring Snoop Dogg (233,000 vs. 138,000; up 69 percent), Katy Perry's "Birthday" (121,000 vs. 69,000; up 75 percent), 5 Seconds of Summer's "She Looks So Perfect" (146,000 vs. 96,000; up 51 percent) and Lorde's "Tennis Court" (35,000 vs. 11,000; up 214 percent).

ALBUM ACTION: On the latest Billboard 200 chart, reflecting the sales week ending May 25, a number of BBMA performers climb the list. 

OneRepublic's "Native" rises 34-12 with 19,000 (up 133 percent) following the band's BBMA performance of "Counting Stars" and a rendition of their new single, "Love Runs Out," on NBC's "The Voice" (May 20).

Iggy Azalea's "The New Classic" climbs 14-9 with 22,000 (up 42 percent), Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions" ascends 22-15 with 14,000 (up 39 percent), Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty" zips 35-22 with 9,000 (up 13 percent), Lorde's "Pure Heroine" jumps 19-16 with 13,000 (up 7 percent) and Luke Bryan's "Crash My Party" gains by 4 percent (with 16,000; but is pushed down two spots to No. 14).
