Those who want to see watch OneRepublic perform its hit song “Counting Stars” on television should probably tune in to tonight’s Billboard Music Awards, because the band might not every play it on TV again.
“[Sunday night] will be the last time we do ‘Counting Stars’ on TV — potentially ever, or for at least a good long while,” OneRepublic and recent Billboard cover star Ryan Tedder told Billboard during BBMA rehearsals on Saturday.
Tedder also revealed backstage that OneRepublic will premiere its new single “Love Runs Out” on next week’s finale of “The Voice.” Tedder went on to say how television performances have been played a crucial role in raising the group’s profile.
“TV lets the whole world know it exists and nothing comes close to comparing it,” he said. “All of the biggest acts in history have their TV moments. So we try to do as much as possible to let people know that it’s out there.”
But there’s also a downside. “They’re not always fun to do — the Billboard Music Awards happen to be fun — but a lot of them aren’t,” Tedder explained. “There’s a lot of standing around in green rooms waiting for hours on end, or days.”
OneRepublic's 2013 was highlighted by the success of "Counting Stars," a big tour and more. The band is a finalist at the Billboard Music Awards in the Top Duo/Group and Top Digital Songs categories, as well as finalists for the fan-voted Milestone Award, presented by Chevrolet.
Watch the 2014 Billboard Music Awards tonight (May 18) on ABC live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas as host Ludacris welcomes the biggest names in music to the stage.
