Swedish pop duo Icona Pop continued to spread their breakout single "I Love It" to the masses with an exuberant performance of the song at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 19). Before they took the stage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, however, Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt shed some insight into the debut album that "I Love It" will eventually lead.
BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS
"It's gonna be out before the end of the summer," Jawo told Billboard on the Cambio blue carpet of Icona Pop's first full-length. When asked about some of the producers on the album, the duo casually name-checked some of the biggest pop maestros working today.
"We've worked with hip-hop artists like Zebra Katz, and also Stargate, Benny Blanco and Shellback," said Jawo. Stargate is the Norwegian production duo behind some of Rihanna's biggest hits, while Blanco and Shellback are responsible for hits by artists like Britney Spears and Ke$ha. Patrick Berger, who produced and co-wrote "I Love It," will also be featured on the album.
After making its debut on the Hot 100 chart earlier this year, "I Love It" has peaked at No. 7 on the tally, and currently sits at No. 9 on the chart. Last week, Icona Pop announced its first-ever headlining tour in North America, which kicks off on Aug. 12 in Asheville, N.C.
Although "I Love It" may receive a chart bump following its joyful presentation at the Billboard Music Awards, Icona Pop doesn't want fans to expect a debut album full of carbon copies of their smash single. "It's not gonna be 15 'I Love It's, but it's gonna be personal tracks," Hjelt explained backstage at the BBMAs. "We've been writing on this album for almost four years. We always says that it feels like we've been in labor for four years, and now this little pop baby is finally coming out."
