1) Green Day Surprises 'American Idiot' Broadway Fans
Two days after its new rock opera "American Idiot" premiered on Broadway, Green Day took the stage at Thursday night's show for a surprise 2-song set. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool started a shout-and-response while playing the title track from the album that inspired the show, then dug out old favorite "Basket Case" to the delight of fans. This video has the best view, but go here to watch the full set.
Bonus Pleasant Surprise: Caught by TMZ cameras on the streets of New York, a perfectly stable looking Lauryn Hill is asked if the world might hear new music from her anytime soon. Her answer: "Yeah, possibly. Maybe." Vague, but we'll take it. (Watch)
2) B.o.B.'s Got 'Nothin' On Ellen DeGeneres
Just before he toppled the mighty Rihanna to earn his first Hot 100 No. 1, Atlanta rapper B.o.B. played to Ellen DeGeneres' daytime talk show crowd, performing "Nothin' on You" with its hook-singer/songwriter, Bruno Mars.
Bonus TV Gig: Gorillaz performed "Plastic Beach" lead single "Stylo" on "The Colbert Report" with Bobby Womack, and the band's, creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, gave an interview earlier in the show. Much to Colbert's disappoint, the animated Gorillaz did not show up, resulting in his first question: "Who the f*ck do you think you are?" (Watch)
3) Lin Yu Chun & William Shatner Duet
Tawian's "next Susan Boyle" and Captain Kirk sing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" on "George Lopez Tonight." Why? No idea.
4) Beck & Friends Cover INXS' "Need You Tonight"
As part of his Record Club cover series, Beck recruits Os Mutantes, the Liars and Annie Clark of St. Vincent to cover INXS' 1987 hit, "Need You Tonight." It's damn near impossible to sound as seductive as Michael Hutchence does on the original, but Clark comes close.
5) Devendra Banhart Gets Whipped, Dismembered in "Foolin'"
Alt-folkie Devendra Banhart subjects himself to various forms of physical torture in the clip for his new song, "Foolin.'" Not for the faint of heart.
Bonus Questionable Moves: "American Idol" bellower turned country singer Danny Gokey shills for glasses brand Wisconsin Vision by demonstrating how far he can see from the stage, thanks to his quality lenses. He couldn't hold out for a LensCrafters endorsement? (Watch)
