Watch Willow Smith Find Inner Peace in 'I Am Me' Video
After bursting on the scene with an irresistible party anthem, Willow Smith is literally done whipping her hair. The 11-year-old star has shaved her head and gone for a more serious, personal sound in the video for her new song "I Am Me," which premiered on Sunday (July 1).
While most girls her age are worried about looking cool and making sure their homework's in on time, Smith is concerned about finding out who she really is, declaring, "Your validation is just not that important to me." In the video, Smith expresses her independence by skateboarding through Washington Square Park while touting a portable keyboard, and later gazing wistfully out at the New York skyline.
When she introduced the video to the world on Sunday night, Smith wrote on Twitter, "#IAMME Thank You Guys! Be You!" She also offers a bit of spoken-word advice at the end of the video: "Listen to this song because it's real facts that will help you move along."
"I Am Me," like "Whip My Hair," will presumably be included on Willow's debut album, titled "Knees and Elbows," which does not yet have a release date. Smith has also recorded the single "Fireball" with Nicki Minaj.
