Miley Cyrus Covers Nirvana: Better Than Casey Abrams?
We've seen Miley Cyrus channel her inner rock goddess before, and on her latest Gypsy Heart Tour, she's at it again. Cyrus covered the Nirvana classic "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at the tour's kickoff on Apr. 29 in Quito, Ecuador. Watch below.
Before ripping into the cover, Cyrus got sentimental with the crowd, saying, "For this tour, I want to be able to do the music that inspired me and made me want to be on this stage tonight. Also, it's hard being on the road because you miss your family back home. This song is something I always sing with my little brother who can't be with me on tour, so this song is also for him."
Sure, Miley channels the song's rawness into body convulsions and an attempt at gravel-voiced belting (or at least as close as a former Disney Channel star can get to it). But how does it compare to Casey Abrams' memorable (and perplexing) rendition of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on "American Idol" back in March? And more importantly, what do you think Kurt Cobain would think? Tell us in the comments below.
Casey growled, Miley thrashed about -- they just had to get the anger out.
