"Glee": Where retired characters never seem to die ( except when they actually do, as will happen on next week's "Funeral" episode).
On tonight's "Prom Queen" episode, we see the return of Vocal Adrenaline leader and Rachel Berry's ex, Jesse St. James (played by Jonathan Groff). He pops in on Rachel forlornly belting out an all a cappella version of Adele's surprise hit, "Rolling in the Deep." Watch below, as Jesse attempts to reconnect with an overly-emotional Rachel.
In addition to more Adele love on "Glee" -- Gwyneth Paltrow started that trend with "Turning Tables" earlier this seasion -- the cast will tackle the following: Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely," ABBA's "Dancing Queen," the Black Kids' "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You," Christina Perri's "Jar of Hearts," and surprisingly, Rebecca Black's viral hit "Friday."
Of "Friday," "Glee" co-creator Ryan Murphy recently gave an explanation: "There's a rule for it [the song] that's explained in the show. The [glee club] is hired to perform songs for the prom and they were told by the principal to please do popular songs that the kids know."
Murphy added, most pointedly: "The show pays tribute to pop culture and, love it or hate it, that song is pop culture."
Gleeks, what do you think of Rachel and Jesse's stripped-down take on Adele's "Rolling in the Deep"? Which cover are you most excited about on tonight's "Glee"? Tell us in the comments below!
