Cassadee Pope Before 'The Voice': Watch Her Band Cover Jason Derulo
Before she was crowned season three winner of "The Voice," Cassadee Pope and her band, Hey Monday, were embedded in the pop rock set, performing on Warped Tour and guesting on Fall Out Boy, We the Kings and All Time Low tracks.
In Sept. 2010, the then-21-year-old singer stopped by Billboard's studios to perform a stripped-down punk version of Jason Derulo's "In My Head." Watch above.
Hey Monday Q&A
One of the three finalists on "The Voice," Pope's recent cover of Miranda Lambert's "Over You" debuted and peaked at No. 1 on Country Digital Songs and No. 25 on the Hot 100, selling 152,000 downloads in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The track, which she performed again last night on the final performances episode of the NBC singing competition, has sold 207,000 copies to date.
On Tuesday night, Pope topped Terry McDermott and Nicholas David to win season three.
When she covered "In My Head" with her bandmates, Pope told Billboard that they had chosen the cover to take out on the 2010 Vans Warped Tour. "We'd been talking about doing a cover and I heard it on the radio… It's the kind of song where if you wanted to make it your own, you can," she said. "It has so many options -- it's an easy song to take and warp and make different."
The Florida trio went on indefinite hiatus at the end of 2011, with Pope embarking on a solo tour in the first part of 2012. She then auditioned for "The Voice" season 3 in September.
While in the studio with Billboard, Hey Monday also performed their own single, "I Don't Wanna Dance." Check out the acoustic performance below.
