Uncharted Territory: OrelSan Climbs; Excision Drops New Mix

Two weeks ago we caught up with French rapper OrelSan (aka Aurélien Contentin) after he re-entered the Uncharted at No. 33. Over the past 14 days, OrelSan has picked away at the competition and finds himself at No. 16 this week. The increased buzz has only grown since the September 26 release of his latest record, "Le Chang Des Sirenes": The video for his new single "Plus Rien ne m'Étonne" (also out on the 26th) has notched over 194,000 YouTube views (overall, he's got over 29,000 video views this week), and not to mention he gained over a staggering 13,000 new Facebook fans. Don't be surprised if OrelSan finds himself a bit higher up next week.

Also climbing the ranks this week is Canadian dubstepper Excision, who released his annual "Shambhala" mix album on September 28. Fans could download the mix for free by "liking" his Facebook page, so it's no surprise he gained over 13,000 this week alone. But more than that, Excision saw a bump in both his Last.fm and SoundCloud plays as well, raking in over 18,000 and 5,000 respectively. All of this was enough to land Excision at No. 17, but as we all know, the Internet can be a fickle place, so we'll have to see if Excision can maintain that buzz next week.

British producer and indie favorite Gold Panda made an impressive leap this week, going from No. 47 to No. 19 after dropping his first new track in a while, "An Iceberg Hurled Northward Through Clouds." The glitchy, bell-heavy track will appear as the latest installment of !K7's "DJ-Kicks" compilation series, and in just two weeks has amassed over 45,000 SoundCloud plays. Gold Panda also saw his Last.fm plays increase drastically, jumping from over 27,000 last week to over 47,000 this week.

Propelling back into the top 50 is New York-based techno DJ/producer Modular Punk, who's been gaining steam quite steadily. Over the past thirty days, Modular Punk has released eight out of ten new tracks--with names that reference everyone from Radiohead to Nietzsche to "Planet of the Apes"--all of which appear on his new album, "Rise of Man." A new record, combined with a string of upcoming European dates and over 43,000 SoundCloud plays, was enough to propel Modular Punk from No. 53 to No. 24 this week.

Lastly, drumming sensation Metyal Cohen jumped a few spots this week to No. 46 after posting a new cover of her drumming along with the Alice In Chains classic "Man In The Box." Though the video only dropped on September 30, it's already got over 31,000 YouTube views--understandable considering what a gut-pounding, spot-on drummer Cohen is.

Elsewhere on the Uncharted, our old pal Traphik is--you guessed it--still at No. 1, though Your Favorite Enemies have managed to usurp the No. 2 spot from DJ Bl3nd, who finds himself at No. 3. Tyler Ward takes the No. 4 spot, and dutch electronic trio, Noisia, who we highlighted last week, rounds out the top 5.
