POTW: Gwen Stefani, Shakira, Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez

In an attempt to revamp his image, Kanye West has allegedly hired a 19-year-old Yale student to help recreate his wardrobe.

Kanye and the sophomore, named Cassius Clay, met at a Barney's after 'Ye tapped him on his shoulders to compliment his shoes. Soon after, Kanye asked the kid to drop out of school and become his personal stylist and -- get this -- his confidant, emailing him: "I need you during this difficult time."

And so began one of the most unlikely relationships in hip-hop.

Now, the boy from Brookline, Mass., who took a one-semester leave of absence from Yale shortly after Labor Day, is officially part of Kanye's entourage.

According to Clay's classmates, he was always known for his fashion sense. He apparently would come to class decked out in "Harry Potter glasses, feathered bow ties and Hermes scarves," and instead of a standard backpack, he'd carry a $5,000 Hermes Birkin bag.

Since then, Clay's apparently been running around, dyeing 'Ye's jeans red and dressing him for show appearances and events. According to the New York Post:

A few weeks ago, Clay stopped by Phillip Lim's showroom in New York and picked out a woman's jacket for Kanye. "The staff thought he was nuts," says his gal pal from Andover. Then Kanye walked in. He loved it and requested that a man's version be made.

"They're both very similar. I can absolutely see how they can get along extremely well," the anonymous friend says. "Or they might each be too big of a diva that it can go either way," she adds with a laugh.

Also, the day after Kanye met Clay, he reached out to designers Stubbs And Wootton, the makers of Clay's shoes, and asked to collaborate with them. Apparently, the company is now considering dropping a Kanye West-crested shoe for the spring.

Insanity. Good luck, kid.
