50 Cent Signs 'Power' Star Rotimi to G-Unit, Drops 'Lotto' Single
The G-Unit roster added a new member yesterday (June 18) as 50 Cent announced singer and actor Rotimi has joined the clique. The New Jersey native stars in the second season of the Starz show Power, alongside 50, who also produces the hit program.
After the announcement, Rotimi dropped an updated version of his 2014 track “Lotto,” which now boasts 50 kicking off the opening verse. Upon its release, the track jumped to No. 1 on the real-time Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart. The feat continues a recent run for 50 Cent, who also topped the chart as a guest on Elle Varner’s “Birthday” in early June.
Speaking to Complex, Rotimi described “Lotto” as “about that feeling you get after seeing that certain someone who captures your attention and makes you feel lucky; like you've hit the jackpot.”
The G-Unit collective (currently comprised of 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, Young Buck and Kidd Kidd) has collected several Billboard hits since their breakout in 2003. Both of their studio albums, Beg for Mercy and T*O*S (Terminate on Sight), reached the top 5 on the Billboard 200. Frontman 50 Cent has of course enjoyed a prolific career, earning 13 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Four of those tracks, "In Da Club," "21 Questions" (featuring Nate Dogg), "Candy Shop" (featuring Olivia) and "Crack a Bottle" (with Eminem and Dr. Dre) climbed to No. 1.
As the pair (presumably) get to work on new music, check out two of Rotimi’s previous mixtapes below:
