Killer Mike, ATL rap stalwart and one half of Run The Jewels, got some shine earlier this month from a fairly unlikely source. Kendrick Lamar referenced the rapper on his Billboard 200 No. 1 album To Pimp A Butterfly with the lyrics “Critics wanna mention that they miss when hip-hop was rappin’/ muthaf***a if you did then Killer Mike would be platinum" ("Hood Politics").

During a RTJ interview with MTV earlier this week, Mike spoke about Kendrick's shout out, saying, "It was an honor."

"I'm a big fan of Kendrick," he told MTV, "[and] I didn't know he listened to me. I suspected maybe he did, but I'm glad it was confirmed in such a huge and complimentary way."

The rapper also spoke about his admiration for Lamar's TDE cohort, saying "I just like what they're doing."

He concluded by thanking Kendrick and telling him, "I owe you a cool dinner at a very fancy restaurant." Hey Mike, can we join?
