The Weeknd Arrested For Punching Las Vegas Police Officer

The Weeknd was arrested early Saturday morning in Las Vegas after allegedly punching a police officer following an altercation inside the Cromwell Hotel.

The R&B singer née Abel Tesfaye was allegedly involved in an incident around 4:20 a.m. at the Caesars-owned boutique hotel, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department public information officer Laura Meltzer.

Meltzer said it was unclear whether the altercation was a physical fight or verbal, but when law enforcement arrived and attempted to break it up, separating those involved, Tesfaye struck the officer in the side of the head with a closed fist.

Tesfaye was arrested on one count of misdemeanor battery of a protected person.

On Saturday night, he posted a photo on Instagram of him walking to a private jet, leaving the city. "Escaped from Las Vegas," it said. 

Billboard reached out to The Weeknd's reps for comment, but had not heard back at press time.
