Minnesota Timberwolves second year small forward Robbie Hummel isn’t exactly a household name for his NBA exploits (yet!) but what about as a rapper?

On Aug. 27, Hummel sent out a few tweets to hype what was apparently a burgeoning hip-hop career. It’s too bad his own team’s PR didn’t take him seriously:

Shaq Comes Out of Rap Retirement to Get on Pharrell's 'NBA 2K15' Soundtrack

But Hummel shot back, “No this is the real deal” and proceeded to share this studio shot via Instagram:

He even dropped a few bars:

And then the player (whose Twitter background features him posing with Snoop Dogg) tried to collaborate with 50 Cent and Just Blaze:

He said his mixtape was available on Datpiff, but sadly, no such tape ever materialized. Was it all a joke? Was the hip-hop world getting trolled by the former Purdue star? Perhaps we’ll never know, because as of approximately 10 a.m. (ET) Aug. 28, Hummel’s career is no more:

The T-Wolves' PR called him a one-hit wonder, but at least that’s more than most of us will ever have.
