For this week's 11th episode of The Juice podcast, I'm joined by Tracy Garraud (Sirius XM's Sway In the Morning, BET), Nile "Low Key" Ivey (You Heard That New, KWL Management) and this week's co-host, my co-worker Jason Lipshutz (Billboard’s Pop Editor).(I e-promise I'll pronounce his last name right the next time he's on The Juice Podcast.)
The four of us talked about two of this week's trending topics of the R&B/Hip-Hop world, including The-Dream and Meek Mill and Wale's squabble.
The-Dream surprised fans this past week when he popped up on social media and released a new EP, "Royalty: The Prequel," after short notice.
The 7-song project reunites The-Dream with long-time collaborator, songwriter/producer, Tricky Stewart. We talk about the power of the sonic "Holy Trinity" that is The-Dream, Tricky Stewart and Los de Mystro, which we agree sets The-Dream back in the right direction after the disappointing sales of "IV Play."
We also touch on The-Dream’s R&B competition, and how they, specifically Trey Songz, pull inspiration from The-Dream's discography.
We close the episode discussing the beef between Meek Mill and Wale – which unfolded through out social media on Tuesday (July 8) – and the inner-workings of Maybach Music Group. Is it deeper than beef?
