Beyonce's self-titled surprise album is far-and-away the year's biggest selling R&B/hip-hop set.

As we reach the half way mark of 2014, we take a moment to glance at the biggest selling R&B/hip-hop albums and digital songs through the sales week that ended June 29.

'Frozen,' Pharrell Williams Lead Soundscan's Mid-Year 2014 Charts

Beyonce's self-titled set, which appeared out of thin air when it was released last December, stands as the best selling R&B/hip-hop album of the year. With 702,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SounsScan, the album is a quarter-million units ahead of the year’s second-biggest set, Pharrell Williams' "GIRL" (452,000). "Beyonce" spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the weekly Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart, while Williams occupied the position three times.

"Beyonce" is 2014's only R&B/hip-hop album that has sold 500,000 units, compared to the previous two years where three titles surpassed the half million mark by mid-year.

"GIRL" spawned the year's top R&B/Hip-Hop digital song, "Happy," which has sold over 5.6 million downloads and spent 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Williams is nearly 1.8 million downloads ahead of the second biggest R&B/hip-hop seller, John Legend's "All Of Me," (3.9 million). "Happy" currently stands as the top-selling digital song of 2014 across all genres.

The third-biggest R&B/hip-hop album of the year, and top rap set, belongs to Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," having moved 414,000 copies. Debuting at No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums last year, "MMLP2" became the hip-hop veteran's eighth consecutive No. 1. It has sold a total of 2.1 million copies since its release last November.

Eminem also claims a spot on the most downloaded R&B/hip-hop songs of the year, coming in at No. 7 with "The Monster," featuring Rihanna, selling 1.3 million digital songs.

19.13 million R&B/hip-hop albums have been sold in 2014 -- down 19 percent versus the 23.7 million sold a year ago. As for digital song sales, 124.55 million have been sold, down 9 percent compared to the 136.74 million last year at this point point.
