Janelle Monáe's Australasian Tour Scrapped Due To Illness
Janelle Monáe’s Australasian tour has been canceled after she failed to shake-off a mystery illness.
The R&B artist had already nixed a date Saturday in Melbourne and another on Monday in Sydney. On Tuesday evening, the tour promoter Live Nation Australasia announced the rest of the run wouldn’t go ahead.
“Due to Janelle Monáe’s continuing illness it has been confirmed that the remainder of ‘The Golden Electric Tour’ has been cancelled and there will be no rescheduled performances,” the brief statement reads.
Concerts scheduled for Brisbane on Thursday; Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday; and again in Melbourne next Monday have been scrapped. A complete statement, including details on refunds, will be issued by LN on Wednesday.
Monáe's five-city “Golden Electric Tour” of Australia and New Zealand is billed as a co-headlining trek with Kiwi artist Kimbra. The American artist fell ill just before she was due on stage at Melbourne’s The Forum. LN said Monáe stayed on in Melbourne on doctor’s orders. She hasn’t recovered her strength.
Monae’s tour is scheduled to return to the U.S. for a string of dates starting May 31 at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. It’s unclear whether the U.S. shows will be affected.
