Angel Haze Leaks 'Dirty Gold;' Label Responds By Moving Up Release Date
Frustrated with release delays, the rapper leaked the album yesterday without her label's permission, only to have it deleted hours later
Hours after she leaked her debut album without the permission of her label (only to have it taken down soon after), Angel Haze's "Dirty Gold" scored a new release date. Republic will release the long player on Dec. 30 in the United States and UK, roughly two months ahead of its previously announced March 3 arrival.
My labels have agreed to release Dirty Gold December 30th. Uk & US. (Rest of the world, we are coming for you as well). Thank you all. Night— Ala$ka Yxxng (@AngelHaze) December 19, 2013
My labels didn't think that I would do it, but I did. It's hard to put at risk everything I've spent this year working on but I had to— Ala$ka Yxxng (@AngelHaze) December 19, 2013
Frustrated by the stalled release of her debut studio album "Dirty Gold," the New York-based rapper took matters into her own hands yesterday, tweeting a Soundcloud link to the entire LP.
"It's so annoying that my label could tell me that if I fucking finished my album before the summer it would be out this year," she fumed via Twitter . "So sorry to Island/Republic Records, but fuck you."
Shortly thereafter, the music was removed.
Last night, Angel Haze tweeted out the update, stating "Dirty Gold's" new Dec. 30 release date with no further explanation. In her original Twitter rant yesterday (included below), she claimed Republic had promised to release the album during 2013 if it was finished by the end of summer, which she insinuated it was.
Angel Haze's label has not responded to Billboard's request for a comment on the matter.
Following a string of mixtapes, Angel Haze most recently released the "New York" EP via Republic on Dec. 11, 2012 in the United States. "Dirty Gold" had been scheduled for release March 3, 2014, though earlier this month she told Rolling Stone that she expected it to be released in January. Public frustrations began to boil over yesterday, when she tweeted:
Frustration is building. Growing wildly out of control.— Ala$ka Yxxng (@AngelHaze) December 18, 2013
Beginning yesterday morning (Dec. 18) around 11 AM (ET), Angel Haze voiced her full opinion over a series of tweets, compiled below:
"It's so annoying that my label could tell me that if I fucking finished my album before the summer it would be out this year. I have gone to bat for this music. I have gone to bat for myself. I have literally sat fucking sleepless and starved crying over this shit. I turned down so much shit to be sure that I could finish this album because actually wanting something to me means doing all you can to be sure that it's attainable. I stopped arguing my point. Stopped giving a fuck about everything. Let these other ditsy bitches disrespect me. I turned my fucking cheek because MUSIC IS ALL I FUCKING HAVE. And I know that's the same for some of you. I did everything I could for you. I did not promise an album and not deliver, unlike every fucking one else. I sat my ass down and came up with this music WHEN I HAD NOTHING. Taking shit on the chin does not mean sitting back and letting the world beat and suck you fucking dry. It's knowing something is bigger than anything you are or will ever be and sitting the fuck down and complying to get shit done. I'm sorry if I seem angry. But these are my dreams. The only thing I have in my life. Imagine having the only reason you're alive being the very thing straining your existence. Ughhhh... So sorry to Island/Republic Records, but fuck you. I got here doing this for my fans and if you guys don't feel the same, it won't stop me. Idc what happens after this. They will get the music they were promised. And you guys JUST MAY LEARN TO KEEP YOUR FUCKING WORD."
Update: Angel Haze has shared a 13-minute sampler of "Dirty Gold," featuring a track list:
