Last night's 2012 BET Awards show undoubtedly belonged to the Carters ( Beyoncé and Jay-Z) as well as Jay's Throne buddy Kanye West. Aside from the countless nominations and wins between all three -- Best Female R&B Artist, Best Group, Video Director of the Year, Video of the Year -- the majority of the time we weren't watching spectacular performances, such as the Whitney Houston tribute and G.O.O.D. Music's opening set, the cameras zoomed into the front row where the night's power couples and winners sat. Solange and her boyfriend, video director Alan Ferguson, and Nicki Minaj and her rumored boyfriend Safaree were also seated in front.
And we weren't mad at it, especially not me. I'm a sucker for emoments and bromance. Aside from Cissy Houston's heart-wrenching performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," in honor of her late daughter, the night's most talked-about moments took place off-stage and shared between The Throne and the Carters. Kanye and Kim sneaked in a smooch before he and Jay accepted the Video of the Year award, but the moments shared between the Kim-Ye were more subtle -- and a bit awkward, probably since their relationship is newer -- compared to those shared between Bey, Jay and 'Ye, and also Bey and Solange. The sisters swayed back and forth throughout the show, including the Maze and Whitney tributes. It felt like we were getting a glimpse into their everyday, and all that was missing was Blue Ivy.
The event of emoments that we're still swooning over came when Jamie Foxx and Kerri Washington announced the nominees, and ultimately winner, for Video of the Year. Bey' and Hov, who were both nominated for Video of the Year, played with one another as the nominees were announced, jokingly battling.
Jamie Foxx chimed in with a joke to the couple, before announcing Jay and 'Ye as the winners. "It's gon' be an argument at the crib, Jamie joked, "trying to see who's the hottest in the household, baby."
The Carters kept the play-fighting going, before Jay and Kanye walked up to accept their award. During their speech, the Throne got caught up in their bromance. After apologizing to 'Ye for missing his G.O.O.D. opening set due to traffic, Hov interrupted him during his part of this speech, making light of the Taylor Swift MTV Video Music Awards incident. Laughter resonated throughout LA's Shrine Auditorium.
Hov and Ye's bromance isn't new. Its that they've never shied away from showing each other love and respect, publicly, which makes us smile along with them.
