HTDW Covers Janet Jackson, while FlyLo Collaborates with Erykah Badu
A pair of experimental, R&B-leaning projects are coming out over the next two months, and neither is to be slept on. How To Dress Well, the stage name of producer/songwriter Tom Krell, returns with the "Total Loss," the follow-up to his acclaimed 2010 debut "Love Remains," on Sept. 18. On Thursday (Aug. 16), How To Dress Well released a hushed reinterpretation of Janet Jackson's classic single "Again."
Although "Again" will not appear on "Total Loss," the cover nicely encapsulates the devastating combination of Krell's lilting vocals and unfussy arrangements. How To Dress Well will support the album with a quick North America tour beginning on Oct. 3 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Check out "Total Loss's" first single, "Cold Nites," below.
Meanwhile, Flying Lotus will follow up his 2010 breakout "Cosmogramma" with "Until the Quiet Comes," due out on Oct. 2. Along with collaborations with Thom Yorke, Laura Darlington and Thundercat, the producer teamed up with Erykah Badu for the album track "See Thru To U," which was unveiled on Thursday.
Similarly to her "New Amerykah" work, Badu is given thick bass and heavy drums to complement her layered vocals on the track. Flying Lotus will be showcasing the track on his own trek across North America, beginning Oct. 7 in New York.
