Trinidad James Performs in NYC; Brings Out Def Jam and Atlantic Records Execs

Trinidad James' come-up seems to have happened in the blink of an eye. A little less than a year into rapping and the Atlanta native has a hit, "All Gold Everything," that debuted on the top 50 of the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (No. 47) and helped bring important industry insiders to his show at NYC's Santos Party House on Tuesday (Dec. 4).

Many waited outside for an hour or more to get in, only to walk in (if even let in) to a shoulder-to-shoulder packed venue. Trinidad James hopped on stage at 11:30 p.m., three-and-a-half hours after doors opened, and performed a 25-minute set. According to Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Chart manager Rauly Ramirez, the place went nuts when he performed "All Gold Everything," each of the two times he performed it, the second being on top of the bar.

Media (RapRadar, XXL, Complex) and label executives, both from Def Jam to Atlantic Records, were amongst those in attendance. "Joie [Manda], Pecas, Chris Atlas, Barry Weiss on The Def Jam side & [Mike] Keyser on the Atlantic side at Trinidad James show," XXL editor Jayson Rodriguez tweeted. Trey Songz and Kevin Liles, who manages Trey, were also at last night's show.

Labels have reportedly been courting the rapper for months. Many have noticed his multiple visits to the Def Jam offices. "He's been around Def Jam HQ in the past few days," @Meelz, editor of This Goes In, tweeted.

I wasn't too surprised to hear Atlantic Records was also in the building. 3 Little Digs caught T.I. and Trinidad James in the studio together. "What we doing right now, we finna get ready to cot' damn manipulate this mother fuckin' monopoly of ours … and multiply medias," T.I. said.

Trinidad James seems satisfied with currently being unsigned, though. "100% indie right now. Can't complain about this lane. It's working for me right now," Trinidad James told Village Voice.

Besides T.I., other rappers have an eye out for the ATLien. A$AP Rocky and the A$AP Mob hopped on stage last night while Mr. MFN eXquire took to Twitter to share his own thoughts on Trinidad James. "I lost all respect for Trinidad James tonight... I wish him the best tho... from the heart. My bad @TrinidadJamesGG Just so he know... How a ni**a steal your whole style... Them try to act like he made it up?!?!?" he tweeted.
