As Drake dishes details of his upcoming album, "Nothing Was the Same," an unreleased song by the rapper surfaces.
"On My Way," reported to have been recorded three years ago, is similar to the rapper's own, “Girls Love Beyonce.” The sensual R&B song features velvety vocals from singer-songwriter James Fauntleroy over a pulsing beat.
On the track, leaked late Tuesday (June 18), Drake tells a short, but intimate story about dropping everything to visit a lover. "Baby, I just landed / 'Bout to get my bags and, all I need's an address / And I'm on my way," he sings.
It's questionable whether the song leak is a coincidence or part of the album rollout to stimulate more hype. There's not confirmation as to whether the song will be featured in "Nothing Was the Same."
While "Started From The Bottom” gradually climbs the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, tickets for his 41-date headlining tour, Do You Want A Tour?, go on sale tomorrow (June 21).
While at Atlanta's Hot 107.9 bash this past weekend, Drake told Media Pipeline that "Nothing Was the Same" is "almost finished."
"This is my fucking moment to say if I wanted to rap all the time, really rap, I would, but I also love to make music. I'll do this for you right now. But it's for me, too. It's my story... I'm trying to get back to that kid in the basement. To say what he has to say. And I'm trying to make it last," Drake told GQ Magazine.
