The Seed: Earl Sweatshirt, Chief Keef, Lupe Fiasco
Kicking things off The Seed is Cash Money co-founder and CEO Birdman with the first single off Young Money’s upcoming "Rich Gang: Flashy Lifestyle" compilation album. The crew cut, "Tapout," featuring Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and label president Mack Maine, also features current hook extraordinaire Future. "Rich Gang: Flashy Lifestyle" is slated to debut on May 21.
Following a 60-day stint for violating his parole, Chief Keef made his March 14 release from a Chicago juvenile detention center an event with the release of "It's Over Now." The song is featured on the 17-year old’s "Bang Pt. 2" mixtape, due April 1, and its video has already been watched nearly 200,000 times on YouTube.
Last but not least, Lupe Fiasco pays tribute to Jonylah Watkins, the 6-month old baby who was shot to death in Chicago on March 11, with "Jonylah Forever." As a native of Chicago, Fiasco is an outspoken critic against the city's prevalent violence. Upon learning the tragic news, the rapper tweeted, "A 6-Month old baby in Chicago was shot 5 times and killed while the father was changing its diaper." "This is why I rant! This is why I speak out! This is why I sound preachy in my songs! I have no choice! #ChiViolenceMustEnd." he continued.
