Kendrick Lamar's new video for "Poetic Justice" plays out a tragic story of a short-lived romance.
The video opens up with a disclaimer: "All characters in this visual are entirely fictional. The events that occur are purely symbolic and should not be taken literal."
Innocent to devastating events continue to occur as the rapper raps of his love. The romance between Kendrick and his on-screen beau comes to a halt when both get caught up in a shooting on the streets of his hometown of Compton.
Drake, featured on the track, raps his verse on through the phone, attempting to get a hold of Kendric while a beautiful woman lays asleep next to him.
Days before dropping the video, Kendrick Lamar told MTV News how he hoped Janet Jackson would make an appearance. The "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City" song samples the singer's song, "Any Time, Any Place." "Yeah, she heard the message, so we're still crossing our fingers right now," he said. Unfortunately, his wish wasn't granted.
