Zendaya Reviews the DKNY Fall 2014 Runway Show
Zendaya Coleman hit up New York fashion Week for the first time this season. Having been spotted around the tents always looking chic, the singer, actor and dancer proved that she is also quite the fashionista. So we asked the songstress to be a fashion week correspondent for The Hook. Zendaya covers the DKNY show held at a warehouse space in NYC’s gallery district last Sunday (Feb. 9) Check out Zendaya’s review below:
It’s my very first Fashion Week in New York, and I’m loving it so far. I have to say – it honestly doesn’t feel like my first fashion week. That’s probably because when I’m not here, I always watch all the shows online with my stylist, Law Roach.
On Sunday (Feb. 9), I went to Donna Karan’s DKNY Fall 2014 show, which was one of my very favorite shows. Everyone who knows me knows that I love ice cream, so my team and I all stopped for frozen yogurt before DKNY. Next time I might wait until after the show. I was just excited to enjoy my dessert, but Law was so nervous that I was going to spill on my outfit for the show. It was hilarious.
Speaking of outfits, I wore all DKNY with Louboutin pumps. Whenever I’m deciding what to wear for a show, I definitely always at least try on all the things that my stylist brings. But as soon as I get on “The One,” we always know right away.
The DKNY show was incredible and so unique. The theme was a mash up of all things New York, and the looks were just plain fun. I loved the way Donna gave us a little piece of every neighborhood in Manhattan.
The pieces were amazing, but at the same time so down to earth and wearable. Donna used some models on the runway, but what was so cool to me about this show was that she also featured “real people” from New York as models – there were students, businesswomen and even a tattoo artist! It was so refreshing to see a different standard of beauty on the runway, and everyone worked it.
I’m in love with her tiger striped wool pieces and all the lace looks. Fashion is something I’m so passionate about, and I love accessorizing. I’m even the spokesperson for Carmex’s Moisture Plus line of fashion lip balms, which I love, because you can pick and choose different designs that go with your style for the day.
I’m thinking when I rock the lace looks I saw in Donna’s show, I’ll go with the Adventurous stick, but I’ll definitely check with Law first. I go to every show with Law. We have an unspoken language. He usually sits right behind me, and he likes to tap me on my shoulder anytime he sees something he really loves. Whenever something catches my eye, I turn around right away and give him a quick glance.
This Fashion Week has been so much fun to be a part of, and I’ve gotten so many new inspirations. I really already can't wait until next season. Hopefully I will be on that runway next time!
