The queen of pop reclaimed her throne at last night's Super Bowl XLVI game (Feb. 5), wearing Givenchy Haute Couture. Madonna arrived in true imperial style as an army of Roman gladiatorial styled men carried her on a giant throne.
The 53-year-old singer's modern-day Cleopatra look was constructed by the talented designer and creative director for French fashion house Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci. "Following my collaboration with Madonna on her last tour three years ago, it is a great honor for me to be a part of yet another historical and iconic moment," Tisci said of the collaboration.
Madonna opened the show clad in a floor-length gold cape that was hand-embroidered with gold metal cut-outs and lined with leopard-print chiffon. Cleopatra herself would have been green with envy with Madonna's nappa leather, crystal-encrusted gloves and grand bespoke gold headpiece. As the show heated up, Madonna tore off the cape to reveal a silk black mini-dress and leopard-print cape polished with gold studs and crystals. The look was finished with a black python hand-studded belt.
"People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna," Tisci mused in a statement. Madonna slipped into yet another bespoke Tisci creation as she belted out "Like A Prayer." She rocked a black silk hand-embroidered sequins coat when wowing the crowd with her '89 Hot 100 No. 1. In true "Material Girl" style, Madonna accessorized her look with 19.6 carats of white gold and diamond earrings by Bulgari.
Madonna nailed it and with no wardrobe malfunctions! What better way to reclaim the throne then at one of America's most-watched TV broadcasts of the year?
