Ting Tings' Style Council
Ting Tings' Style Council

Style Council is a monthly series profiling music's new generation of fashion influencers.
"I don't know if we're fans of super couture-type clothes, where it's all shoulder pads and fantasy wear," says Katie White, one half of U.K. darlings the Ting Tings, who follow their 2008 breakthrough album 'We Started Nothing' with a new album this spring. "I think we're more street."
White says she draws wardrobe inspiration from a sporty, 1980s gym look -- knitted leg wear, short shorts, quirky socks and sports bras. "I have to wear comfortable clothes onstage. You can't really wear a dress that's lined. It has to be sportswear so you don't split your pants." Despite Katie's hodge-podge vintage and thrift collection from around the world, she holds certain designers -- such as Alexander McQueen and Issey Miyake -- close to her heart.
The Tings Tings' look is a perfect combination of comfort and flash. From Jules de Martino's stretch Nudie jeans for drumming, to Katie's pink Tricker's boots for jumping around stage, the band embraces a true functional-fashion mentality.

Katie's Travel Essentials

1. Issey Miyake Tote
I bought that about a year ago when I was in New York, shopping in SoHo. I've seen it in gold and silver; I'm going to try to find them. I've gone around the world and everybody wants to know where the bag is from.
2. Lipstick
I think I got my lipstick from Japan. I seem to acquire things from lots of different places because we're always traveling. Pale lipstick, you can't really go wrong with that.
3. Werther's Candies
Sweets, because I get really evil when I don't eat. And so for Jules' benefit, I have sweets on me.
4. Hot Pants
Billboard: For your benefit? Jules: Those are for my benefit as well. Katie: No, that's for someone else's benefit, my benefit.
5. Lemsip Cold Medicine
I just flew on an airplane with a stinking cold. I have Lemsip, which is a UK cold killer. It's obviously not working. I prefer what you guys have here which is Tylenol with added caffeine.
6. Tricker's Boots
The shoes I got from one of my favorite stores in Berlin, I think it's called Fourteen Degrees. They sell all kinds of hunting and very old English clothes.
7. Dior Wallet
8. DVF Pink Blouse
I have some clothes stuffed in here because we're going to sound check straight after this. Then, the plan was to go straight on to a fashion show. I don't use a stylist so I stuff my clothes in my handbag till I get somewhere and then get changed in a toilet.
9. Fried Egg Shirt
My problem is that I pick up statement pieces like a t-shirt with two giant eggs on the boobs. I need to buy more basics to put with them - otherwise it's like someone just vomited three hundred colors on to me.
10. French Makeup
This is brilliant. I got it in the South of France and you put loads of colors into it and put it in your handbag; and it saves me carrying so much makeup now.
