Hello Fashion Week! 'God Save My Shoes' Premiere, Kelly Rowland & Patrick McMullan
Although fashion week officially starts today, things began heating up Wednesday (Sept. 7) in Manhattan. Mackage exhibited their spring 2012 collection, displaying a bad-girl chic for that uptown girl who has a dark side and secretly dates a downtown rebel. Gorgeous and all-around kickass black and white leathers intermingled with delicate lace and jersey knits.
The excitement continued at the Number: Lab show where Designer Luis Fernandez created a summer cocktail of a 1930s-era French Riviera look with a contemporary skater vibe.
As the sun set, the evening shone bright with dazzling events that teased the excitement of the week to come. The premiere of "God Save My Shoes" was exhibited at the Paris Theater where viewers were given an insight into the lives of unique women through their shoe collection.
In the film, style Icons from Christian Louboutin, Dita Von Teese and Kelly Rowland chat about their relationship with the stiletto. Rowland admitted to naming her shoes like children, but confessed to being a bad mother for forgetting her "children's" names. The film was also filled with fun facts stating that the average American woman purchases 7 to 8 shoes a year fueling the 40 billion dollar shoe business.
The last event of the evening celebrated my dear friend, and renowned photographer, Patrick McMullan's birthday at Macao. As an old jukebox blared old jazz gems, Patrick fluttered around the room snapping pictures of his eclectic guests. Have to admire a man who chooses to work even on his birthday!
The week is already shaping up to be quite the panache-filled week! Stay tuned with The Hook for the latest NYFW coverage.
