The youngest and hottest in Fashion and music converge tonight (Sept. 11) as Nikolai Fraiture of The Strokes and fashion brand Timo Weiland team up for the brand's Spring 2012 show.
Timo Weiland, an unfussy and ultra cool label, is designed by Weiland and Alan Eckstein, who were actually in The Strokes' fan club when they were in college. After meeting Nikolai at a party and playing ping pong with him and his wife until the wee hours of the morning, a collaboration seemed like the next step in the relationship.
I spoke with Eckstein about how he and Weiland met up with the bassist and surprisingly, it had nothing to do with rock music.
"We met Nikolai at a party and played ping pong and listened to jazz all night," Eckstein told me during a pre-fashion week interview. "The collaboration just happened organically. Nikolai actually makes a lot of his own cloths so it seemed only natural for him to get involved with the brand."
Music, Eckstein told me, is his "true passion … I'm crazy about it," adding that it played a huge role in his love affair with fashion.
"It inspires me more then anything else," he said. "It was through music that I found fashion. When I was younger I loved the Rolling Stones and thought, 'Hey, I want to look like that,' and that's when my love for fashion started."
What can we expect to see on the runway at the Timo Weiland show? "A New York artist travels to Hawaii kind of vibe. Fun, light, and relaxed, more day-to-day wear then past seasons."
For Nikolai Fraiture's part in the collaborative collection, he sought inspiration from his signature denim vest that he dons at every Strokes performance. The collaboration will be a capsule offering for Spring 2012 and has plans to expand into Fall 2012.
Along with designing, Nikolai will also mix the sound for the show. We have the exclusive never before seen playlist from the show below. What do you think?
