Loud Fashion: A Q&A with Stylish DJ, Mia Moretti
DJ Mia Moretti

The Hook’s Gregory DelliCarpini Jr. caught up with DJ Mia Moretti to talk all things fashion and music.

DJ’s are sometimes the best dressed at a party. With headphones as their main accessory, big names like Solange and Samantha Ronson rock killer threads that inspire many while simultaneously speaking volumes about their music taste. Our new series Loud Fashion seeks out the most stylish DJ’s in the industry and explores their finely tuned style.

Whether she's spinning killer mash-ups at glittering after-hours events or rocking eccentric envy-inducing fashions, DJ Mia Moretti is one chic mixtress. Moretti is a front row fixture at New York Fashion Week attending shows like Alice + Olivia, Rebecca Minkoff, Diesel Black Gold, and The Blonds. She's also mixed for Prabal Gurung's post-party at fashion week. We caught up with this her to chat all things fashion, music and dressing for a hot night out on the town.

What are your favorite songs to mix right now?

DJ Mia Moretti: Anything disco, The Magician, Jacques Renault, RAC, Midnight Magic, Cosmic Kids, Classixx, Poolside, I also love Sam Sparro's new album, Woodkid, Kat Dahlia, a new artist on Epic, and I've been playing my new single "Summer of '93" a lot lately!

Is there one artist you won’t play?

Maybe Chris Brown. I've never been inspired to play any one his tracks, but that could always change.

Thoughts on K-pop?

Yes, please.

How do you decide what you’re going to play at a fashion event?

It's usually based on the feel of the collection, the emotion the designer is expressing, the texture, the behavior, the mood of the pieces. Once I have an idea of that aesthetic I let the evening unfold and try to adapt to how the crowd is feeling and responding to what's happening sonically.

Who are your main style inspirations in the music industry?

A$AP [Rocky], Theophilus London, Madonna, Rihanna, Beth Ditto, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, Solange, Charlie XCX, Kat Dahlia

What would you play if you were DJing Kanye West’s fashion show?

Kanye. But I’m a fan of print on print, so that makes sense to me.

Where do you like to shop?

Wherever I am. I don't really think it’s about the store, or the brand, it's more about how you can make it work, so I shop anywhere. I love to find little boutiques and support local designers when I’m traveling.

Who is your favorite designer?

Fausto Puglisi.
