But ABC sees growth in teen & kid viewers.
The 48th annual CMA Awards ratings dipped slightly this year, with 16.1 million viewers tuning in to Wednesday night's broadcast compared to last year's 16.8 million.
ABC did see growth in two demographics: teens (up 4 percent from 2013) and kids (up 19 percent). In addition to the growing popularity of country music overall, the performances of two young pop stars -- Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor -- might have been partly responsible for that uptick. Grande joined Little Big Town for a glowing performance of her song "Bang Bang," while Trainor was joined by Miranda Lambert for her breakout hit "All About That Bass."
The awards show finished in first place on Wednesday and was also the most-social broadcast of the night, garnering more than a million tweets.
The night's big winner was Luke Bryan, whose first-ever CMA Award happened to be the top prize: Entertainer of the Year. Lambert also won big, taking home four awards and making history with her fifth straight win for Female Vocalist of the Year.
