There's typically not as much buzz about the fifth single from an album. That being said, "Make Me Wanna," the latest release from Thomas Rhett's debutĀ It Goes Like This, is a little bit different.

"I've had it since I was 20 years old, so it's been a long time," Rhett tells Billboard. "When we play the song, we are always coming up with new ways to play the song -- which makes it really fun for us. It's a groovin' track, one that shows off a different side of who I am. It reminds me of a Saturday Night Fever/Bee Gees sort of thing. I've always wanted to put it out, and we're definitely pumped about it," says Rhett. "We've seen a reaction to it even when it wasn't a single."

"Make Me Wanna" showcases a different sound to Rhett. Unlike radio hits like "Get Me Some Of That," the new single showcases an R&B side to the singer. "I've got a lot of that in me. I grew up listening to '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay,' Aretha Franklin, Muddy Waters, and all the Rolling Stones stuff. I think that's where the soulful side of my voice comes from. It's not 100% bluesy, but I come from a lot of that. So to put out a song like this is really fun for me. It's just a song that makes you feel good. You just want to crank the windows down and have a good time with it. "

The single follows up the success of "Small Town Throwdown," a single that paired him with label mates Brantley Gilbert and Justin Moore. The single is special to him for multiple reasons. "It's been super cool to be on a song with two of your best friends in the business. It's one thing to sing it with someone random who might want you to sing on their record, but when it's your buddies, it makes it even cooler to be a part of. Also, my dad [Rhett Akins] wrote the song, so the fact I got to sing on it with my buddies makes it even more special."

Has Gilbert's affinity for body art inspired Rhett to go in a likewise manner? "I've threatened to get a tattoo at several points in my life, but I just can't force myself to do it. I've made appointments before, but on the way there, I'll get scared and wonder if that's something I would want on my skin the rest of my life," he says with a laugh.
