Country music superstar Kenny Chesney has released a trailer for the music video of his summery new song “American Kids,” the lead single from his forthcoming studio album.
Shot in Southern California, the Shaun Silva-directed “American Kids” video features an eclectic group of musicians having a great time together while driving around in a custom-painted school bus. Watch the teaser below.
“I don’t care who you are or what you do, everybody needs to let their hair down, just forget about expectations and be in the moment,” Chesney said in a statement. “I love this song because of the way it paints a picture of how we all grow up, the innocence and the fun; but if you really listen, it’s about how we should really live and love.”
Chesney recently collected his 77th hit on Hot Country Songs chart, as "American Kids" bounds in at No. 17, the list's third-highest debut this year. It also marks his 10th top-30 debut on Country Airplay.
“When you hear that song, big as it is, you can tell there’s so much more to it: the freedom, the rush of how good life feels when you let go and embrace it,” Chesney says. “It’s easy to do a literal video, have a bonfire, hit a small town football field, but I wanted everyone to get out of what they know! It’s when you don’t know, and you’re winging it sometimes, that you have the most fun.”
The “American Kids” video premieres on June 30.
Chesney is putting the finishing touches on his as-yet untitled new album, which again features co-production with Buddy Cannon. A release date has not yet been revealed. The singer will return to the road in 2015.
