The Americana Music Association celebrated the nominees for their 2014 Americana Honors & Awards this afternoon in downtown Nashville with a music-filled event at the SiriusXM Music City Theatre. The satellite radio network’s Elizabeth Cook (Apron Strings) announced the nominations during the event, which was broadcast live and also streamed via MusicCityRoots.com.
Nominations-wise, it was a big day for two younger stars of the format -- Robert Ellis and Jason Isbell (formerly of the Drive-By Truckers) -- as well as for veteran performer Rosanne Cash. Each received a trio of nods on the afternoon, with all three vying for Album Of The Year and Artist Of The Year. The final nominee in the latter category is Rodney Crowell, who was Cash’s husband from 1979-1992.
Other artists garnering nominations include The Avett Broters, The Milk Carton Kids, The Devil Makes Three and Patty Griffin.
Cook was joined at the nominations event by Jim Lauderdale, who will host the festivities on Sept. 17 from the Ryman Auditorium. Rising stars (and nominees) Valerie June, Hurray For The Riff Raff, and Parker Millsap performed.
