Though Lucy Hale first tasted fame for her role as Aria Montgomery on the ABC Family series "Pretty Little Liars," it's actually music that is her first love.

The singer-actress, and recent People's Choice winner, says that playing the waiting game to showcase her musical talent has been "a little bit of a process. I started in music, and I thought the music would happen before the acting So, I've been waiting a few years. I started the album process about two years ago. It's been a little bit of a wait, but I'm grateful that we held out to give it to people. So, there's a sense of relief right now. It's an awesome feeling."

Hale will release her debut album, "Road Between," on June 3.

More Lucy

Balancing her multi-faceted career does pose a challenge, but Hale says she's up for the challenge. "Up until this point, I've been focusing on the acting. Now, it's at the point where we're juggling both.  I knew what I was signing up for when I decided to do both. I knew it was going to be a lot of long hours, and I knew I was going to be tired, but I had a gut feeling that right now was the right time to do it. I wake up in the morning, and feel so lucky that I love what I do. It's going to be a lot of traveling on the weekends when we start shooting the show again and start doing things with the music. It will be an adjustment. But, I've got a lot of great people that are making sure things get done, but that I'm taking care of myself and getting rest."

Musically, she claims a pair of 1990s icons as artists that have inspired her, but country music has always been a part of her life growing up in Memphis. "My influences are the Dixie Chicks and Shania Twain. I also love Vince Gill and Dolly Parton, I would say that for me, though a lot of my music doesn't necessarily sound like Shania Twain, I remember growing up I listened to the Come On Over album. I remember how fun it was and how happy it made me feel when I listened to it. I hope that's how my first album is – it will make people want to go back and listen to it. A lot of the songs are really fun, and there's a lot of energy to it."

January was notable for Hale because of her win as "Favorite Cable TV Actress" at the People's Choice Awards. "It just goes to show you the power of social media and how supportive the people are that are watching the show," she says. "It's a fan voted award show, and it was incredible to see all these people who have my back and believe in what I'm doing. It was a very cool moment."

On board with Hale's musical career from the start is SiriusXM, which has been featuring the single. "They are incredible. I got to premiere my song first with them. What I love about them is that they give people a chance. They've definitely had my back."

She has finished recording her debut album, and can't wait for fans to hear the music. "I just want people to see a different side of me. With the music, I think they will get a clearer understanding of who I am, and will spread the word about what I'm doing."

She also can't wait to show the public that there is more to Lucy Hale than Aria. "A lot of people think that's all I have to offer – and I am so grateful for the show and everything that goes with it, but there's a lot more to me. I can't wait to get to showcase that!"
