The country star hopes to bring his latest project, Electro Shine, to a festival near you
Big Kenny is at his creative ways once again. The singer -- one half of the duo Big & Rich -- is excited about a new musical experience he is in the process of putting together called Electro Shine.
What is Electro Shine? It is a fusion of EDM beats with classical instrumentation. In an interview with Billboard at his "University of Creativity," Big Kenny talked about carrying on the musical path that he and John Rich blazed with such hits as "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)," and adding to it.

"We were starting to see other artists coming from EDM right now who are putting country elements into their music," he said, adding that "We started doing that before any of them. Now, you've got Avicii coming out with 'Wake Me Up,' and 'Hey Brother,' using bluegrass artists in that music -a whole new place for that. We've been building this melody and bringing those EDM elements into it for two years. What we found is performing it live, the audience doubled. We did it in 2012 at Twin Lakes, and then again this year. This year, there were so many people climbing over the fence to get on stage that I had to stop. It was getting so packed that we were scared somebody was going to fall off the stage."
Next year will see Big Kenny expand the musical experience in a large way, and he feels the fans are going to love it. "With Electro Shine it's all about the experience. We never went into the music thinking we were building it for radio or that it was going to fit into a format, but we know there's an audience because of how they've reacted as we've tested this thing. We're building this all-inclusive festival inside of a circus tent that will put people inside an experience they've never had before. John and I travel the world and go in some of the banginest clubs you'd see anywhere and see how intense the whole experience is."
After careful planning and consideration, he's ready to launch Electro Shine to the world at large. "We've finally honed the concept down. We've got two circus tents, and what we're going to do is this all inclusive festival in the tent. There's lasers, fog sheets that we project against dancers, characters, and aerialists. It's a musical circus that doesn't stop and is all engaging. It's going to be fun, fun, fun."
The plan is to align itself with several of the top music festivals in the country. "They buy it, and set it in the festival, and it will go every night as long as the festival runs. I've produced the show, and it will be presented by me. We're casting it. I'm going to put a lot of musicians and entertainers to work, because our goal is going to be to have multiple tents. It's a musical experience based on that. We bill it like you're coming to a show on Broadway than you're coming to hear hit songs by specific artists. Multiple artists are involved, and all the songs are collaborations. We're going to build more and more of those."
Just like with the "Muzik Mafia," of which he was a founding member, Big Kenny plans to introduced some unknown talent to the world through Electro Shine.
"I hope to start as many new artists as I can. Hopefully, it will be a whole new place to put musicians and talent to work. Every now and then, like with the Mafia, you never know who's going to show up. We will have other artists into it as the shows build. I plan on introducing a bunch of DJ's and talent that nobody has seen before."
With his massive plans for his new endeavor, you might think that means Big & Rich is on the back burner. You would be wrong. Big Kenny says he and Rich have got nine songs mastered for a new album, which he states is as close to the core of country radio as they have been -- with, of course, a Big & Rich twist.
Musically, as far as the songs that will fit into the format, we're probably closer to nailing that with this album than we've been yet. The songs are great. They're country songs with aspects of love and things everything can relate to. But, the things that we're doing with our voices and the harmonies we're making with it is a fresh sound – even fresh for us." Look for Big & Rich to perform about 60 dates in 2014, with about 25 festivals planned for Electro Shine.
