George Jones Turns 80: 'I Never Thought About Dying'

Casinos in Minnesota and South Dakota are saying legendary country singer George Jones has fallen ill and has canceled or postponed concerts scheduled for this weekend.

Jones was scheduled to perform Friday at the Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center in Mahnomen, Minn., and the Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood, SD on Saturday.

Shooting Star released a statement from Jones' management team, saying the 81-year-old singer has been stricken with a virus and is being treated by doctors.

The entertainment director for the Mountain Grand said the star is having respiratory issues, the same reason given for postponing concerts earlier this year.

The Shooting star date will not be rescheduled, however, the show in Deadwood is being listed as postponed. Jones has five remaining performances on his calendar for November.

Jones announced in August that he'll retire from the road after next year to spend more time with his family. "The Grand Tour" will visit approximately 60 cities in 2013.

The Country Music Hall of Fame member and Beaumont, Texas native also plans to record and release a new studio album in the near future. As Billboard previously reported, Dolly Parton is writing songs for the project.
