It's a man's world, especially for the entertainer of the year category at tonight's CMAs. It's a near-carbon copy of the male vocalist nominees, save for a Taylor Swift-Kenny Chesney swap. To get you ready for the big show (Tonight on ABC at 8/7c) The 615 is offering our pick.
Entertainer of the Year
Analysis: I don't think there is one clear-cut winner, nor any nominee totally out of the running on this one. Jason Aldean is a first-time nominee, and it usually takes at least a second or third time to have the best chance. Still, his sales at retail and the box office show that he is more than ready to take the next step. Blake Shelton has had a year to remember, and Paisley (2010), Swift (2009), and Urban (2005) have all won the award before. I think it comes down to the continued dominance of Taylor Swift and the emergence of Blake Shelton to Country Music's A-List.
Who Will Win: Blake Shelton. Between "Honey Bee," The Voice, and all the press surrounding his nuptials to Miranda Lambert, I think he will walk away with this one. But, don't be surprised if Swift reclaims this trophy. Here and abroad, she has represented the genre well.
CMA Fun Fact: Should a repeat winner occur in this category, place your bets upon Brad Paisley to do so. In the history of the awards, only three artists (Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, and Kenny Chesney) have won the award, taken a break, and won it once again. Swift's 2009 win made her only the sixth solo female act to ever win the award during the history of the CMA's, and aside from Barbara Mandrell, nobody has won it more than once!
