The country superstar's album "Two Lanes of Freedom" is due February 5, but you can listen to the title track exclusively here first
Tim McGraw's upcoming album, "Two Lanes of Freedom," is one of the most anticipated country releases in recent memory and Billboard is excited to give you the exclusive first listen to the title title song.
After a two-decade stint with Curb Records, McGraw moved on from the label in 2012, signing with Scott Borchetta and Big Machine. That might be the story leading up to "Two Lanes of Freedom," but the bigger story is that McGraw may have just turned in the album of his career.
The set ranges from the radio-ready current single "One Of Those Nights Tonight" to the Haggard-esque "Number 37405." Also of note to fans will be the infectious "The Highway Don't Care," which features Taylor Swift on guest vocals and Keith Urban on guitar. If it sounds like McGraw has spread his wings over a wide array of styles and emotions, it's not a coincidence. "The goal was to bring about a broad spectrum. As a whole, I think this album has a real fresh and optimistic sound," McGraw explains.

McGraw, who graced the cover of Billboard earlier this month, says he's very excited for the album's February 5 release. "We've been looking forward to getting this record out, and getting things rolling. It's just great to have new music and to be able to get it out to people, I've known Scott for a long time, and he's got a great energy about him. That's one of the main reasons I'm at Big Machine."
"I can't wait for people to hear it. I love new music. Any artist will tell you that when they are asked about their favorite things to play, they'll say 'What's the newest thing I have?' So, it will be nice to have the record out, play the stuff off of it, and people be able to hear it live."
One "Two Lanes of Freedom" song that he is very excited about from the album is "Highway Don't Care," which features two musicians McGraw truly enjoyed working with, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban. "Those are two of my favorite artists. Keith and I had talked about recording a song together – something he could play guitar on, it was just finding the right song that worked. When I got the demo, I knew I wanted Taylor's voice on this song. When she came in and sang it, it could not have been better, and to have them both on it is great. I think this song would have been something I would have wanted whether anybody had sang on it. The fact that they are on it makes it really special."
With a new label team behind him, McGraw feels the future is bright... and, he's looking forward to improving his craft – whether in music or on the big screen.
"I want to get better. I know that sounds like a safe or easy answer, but as an artist, I want to make better movies, find scripts and characters that I fall in love with and want to play. I want to make records that mark a place in time for people. As an artist, you want to impact people's lives."
