Chart Beat Meet & Greet: Jana Kramer

A new single for the "Why Ya Wanna" star, who plays the Bonfire Jam in Florida this weekend

What a year it's been for Jana Kramer, the country newcomer whose debut single "Why Ya Wanna" reached No. 3 on Country Songs and who this weekend shares a bill with Gretchen Wilson and Clay Walker at the Bonfire Jam in Florida.

"It's been such an amazing year," she told Billboard. "I have no idea where I would be without [everyones support]. I'm nervous about the new single, but excited at the same time. I just hope it does good."

The new single is "Whiskey," of which Kramer says "I'm just trying to stay true to what I love. I hope this continues to show my traditional side. I want to keep going out on tour, meeting fans, and having my songs speak to them. That's why I wanted to do this in the beginning."

The song is off to a good start. This week, "Whiskey" enters the top 40 on the Country Airplay chart, rising from No. 41 to No. 39.

The year has been full of highlights for Kramer -- from watching "Why Ya Wanna" ascend the charts to making an appearance on the recent CMA Awards. She says that was definitely a "Pinch Me" moment, because she felt the industry had taken notice of her success.

"Obviously they saw that I had accomplished something or they wouldn't have had me on the show," she said. "You can kind of pat yourself on the back for the first time. I remember thinking 'I'm having a conversation with Miranda Lambert in the bathroom. This is so cool.' Getting to talk with Tim, Faith, or Reba, and them actually knowing who I am, I thought 'Is this serious? I grew up listening to you, and now we're friends?' It's such an unbelievable feeling."

This weekend Kramer is heading to Chumuckla, Florida to flex her live chops at the Bonfire Jam.

"It's my birthday week, so it will be great to be around warm weather," said Kramer, who turned 29 on Dec. 2. "It sounds like it's going to be a huge deal. I'm a huge Gretchen fan, so it's just amazing to be among the names."
