#FreeKesha Protestors to Rally, Deliver Petition with 411K Signatures at Sony's New York Headquarters
#FreeKesha supporters will be swarming in on Sony Headquarters to deliver four petitions carrying 411,000 signatures urging the label to free Kesha from her contract, according to a release. The march comes after Kesha's lengthy legal battle with Sony and Dr. Luke, the producer accused of raping and abusing the pop star.
"It is time for Sony to step up and show that they don't value money over the safety and well-being of a woman and artist," the #FreeKesha Facebook event reads, also promising music and glitter in the rally. "They have the power to #FreeKesha by not renewing their contract with Dr. Luke and cutting ties with Kemosabe."
Last month, Sony Music attorney Scott A. Edelman said that the label was "not in a position to terminate the contractual relationship between Luke and Kesha" due to Kesha's initial 2005 signing to Kasz Money, Dr. Luke's company which retains ownership of the agreement.
The four petitions to be delivered will include a Care2 petition that boasts 221,9000 signatures combined with two UltraViolet petitions carrying 69,900 signatures and a SumofUs petition packing 120,400 signatures.
Protestors also plan to project #FreeKesha messages onto Sony's building on 25 Madison Ave. between 7 and 7:30 pm. The rally is slated to take place on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2 pm ET.
An executive from Sony Music offered no comment on the rally. Representatives for Dr. Luke and Kesha did not immediately respond to Billboard's request for comment.
