Joe Jonas Releases First Single With New Band DNCE, 'Cake by the Ocean': Listen
Joe Jonas is back to making music with his band DNCE, which released its debut single "Cake By the Ocean" on Monday.
The poppy disco-inspired track debuted with airplay on New York's Z100, with host Maxwell playing it twice.
As Complex reports, Jonas' band comprises guitarist JinJoo Lee (who has played for Jordin Sparks, Charli XCX, CeeLo Green), bassist/keyboardist Cole Whittle (founding member of Semi Precious Weapons) and drummer Jack Lawless (who played on the Jonas Brothers' 2006 tour).
The song was born from a misunderstanding with producers Robin Fredrikson and Mattias Larsson, when Jonas heard the Swedish duo saying they wanted to get some cake by the ocean, Complex reports. They actually meant the drink Sex on the Beach but this inspired the new song's title, collaborating with with songwriter Justin Tranter (Hailee Steinfeld's "Love Myself" and Selena Gomez's "Good For You") and the production team Mattman & Robin.
Jonas has been DJing but hasn't released an album of original material since his solo debut, Fastlife, in 2011, which was proceeded by four Jonas Brothers studio albums.
