The Purple One references "Kiss" on his latest track.

Weeks after Prince removed his music from Spotify and other streaming sites, the music legend has posted a new solo track, “Stare,” on the music service. The funk track may or may not be a preview of Prince’s upcoming studio album with 3rdEyeGirl.

“Stare” is Prince’s most playful track in quite some time: the horn flourishes, elastic bass and intermittent harmonies revolve around his collection of winks and hip swivels. At the 1:25 mark, Prince even makes a nod to his classic single “Kiss” that’s impossible to miss.

On July 1, Prince officially asked all streaming services except TIDAL to remove his catalog. “Stare” is the first Prince track to grace Spotify since then, and the exclusive premiere may signal a partnership with the streaming service. (Reps for Prince and Spotify did not return Billboard’s request for comment).

Last week, Prince’s band 3rdEyeGirl confirmed a new album to be released in 2015, titled HITNRUN. “It’s super experimental,” members of 3rdEyeGirl told the BBC, adding that the record will be out “soon.”
