Not To Be 'Rude' To Iggy Azalea, But MAGIC! Predicted Hot 100 No. 1
The Canadian quartet good-naturedly sensed that this was its week to set 'Fancy' free from the chart's top spot
The news became official yesterday, but MAGIC! had a good feeling that its smash "Rude" would dethrone Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" atop the Billboard Hot 100.
In a visit to Music Choice's offices last week, the Canadian pop/reggae quartet foretold this week's chart action. "(Cough…) Next week, we're going to No. 1," frontman Nasri "Nostradamus" Atweh correctly predicted.
"With Iggy, she's done a great job and I think she should just take a break … and we should slide right into No. 1."
Astute chart-watcher Atweh supported his vision with reasoning. "'Rude' is a younger song than 'Fancy,' so it just takes time." True enough, "Rude" is in its 12th week on the Hot 100, while "Fancy," after seven weeks at No. 1, dips to No. 2 in its 19th frame.
Turning slightly more serious, and clearly grateful, Atweh added, "We're happy that we're even getting fans at all."
Check out the clip above, in which MAGIC! even puts its own spin on "Fancy," rerouting its "from L.A. to Tokyo" refrain to a more appropriate "from … Canada to Canada!"
