Ariana Grande spent the 4th of July at the bedside of her sick grandfather back home in Florida.

The pop singer was scheduled to perform at the Roots Philly 4th of July Jam on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, but canceled because of a family emergency, her representatives said.

— Ariana Grande (@ArianaGrande) July 5, 2014Grande took over MTV’s New York studio on July 2 for a special edition of the network’s former hit “TRL,” re-dubbed “Total Ariana Live,” to debut the Zedd-produced track “Break Free,” the second single off her sophomore album, "My Everything," due Aug. 25.
The following day she tweeted that her New York trip was being cut short so she could be with her grandparents in Florida. “NY I'm sorry u saw less of me this trip. off to the g-parents in FL. they need me & now I gotta be there. love u & thank u for understanding,” Grande wrote.

Since then, the singer has posted numerous photos of her grandfather on Instagram and thanked fans for their prayers and support during the difficult time.
Grande is scheduled to perform “Break Free” at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 24.
