Pawws 'Sugar' EP Premiere: Stream The U.K. Electro-Pop Artist's Debut Release

In January, Pop Shop profiled Lucy Taylor, the enchanting pop singer-songwriter who is now playing under the name Pawws after performing as a backing musician for MGMT and Bloc Party's Kele Okereke. After releasing her debut single, "Time To Say Goodbye/Slow Love," last year, Pawws has finished her debut EP, "Sugar," which you can stream exclusively on before its June 16 release on Best Fit Recordings:

Classically trained in the piano and flute, Taylor decided to make her own "upsetting disco" music after playing the part of backing musician, and signed a deal with Three Six Zero, a global management company partnered with Roc Nation, last July. Daniel Lindegren co-wrote and produced three of the four tracks on the EP, including the recently released track "Just Be Kind," while Jimmy Hogarth co-wrote the title track.

"I chose songs which linked together well and told a story," says Taylor. "I wanted 'Just Be Kind' to be the last song, as it represents the final end of a love gone bad. I found writing this EP extremely cathartic on a personal level."

Pawws made her live debut last July, and performed at the Field Day Festival in London over the weekend. Taylor said that she is still "really good friends" with Okereke last January, and that she hopes he'll pop up on her official debut full-length. "He likes my songs, I think, and he's been really supportive," she said.
