Count Usher among the "The Voice" coaches and contestants impressed with the NBC show's musical director Paul Mirkovich. "He's damn near perfect," Usher says in a behind-the scenes video that gets the band leader's take on how the coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Shakira and Usher operate, and what it takes to succeed on the show.
Mirkovich spent more than 20 years leading Cher's band before taking over musical direction at "The Voice." He has also worked with Janet Jackson and Christina Aguilera and was a member of Whitesnake and Nelson in the 1980s.
He estimates they have now performed 1,700 songs on the series and backed close to 1,000 singers. The playoff rounds of "The Voice" continue April 14 and 15.
