Independent pop provocateurs Simon Curtis and Wolfy have each released their fair share of intriguing solo material, but the pair may have found the formula for a proper breakthrough as the new duo Wrathschild. The boy-girl group is taking its first step forward with the magnetic single "Fall Into Love," premiering exclusively on Billboard.com below:
In January 2012, Curtis and Wolfy decided to join forces after releasing four independent albums between them and collaborate on a new project. The pair kept Wrathschild under wraps for years, working with producer Ray Reich but without a label, manager or publicist.
"After being signed as a songwriter to a publishing deal for six months, I really started feeling my creativity as an artist was being held back," says Wolfy. "I was hungry for making my own music again."
Wolfy has been friends with Curtis since she was 14 years old, and says that collaborating with the singer-songwriter, who released his most recent album "R∆" in 2011, was a "wild and rewarding experience." On "Fall Into Love," the two voices complement each other instead of competing, as Reich's production serves as an epic backdrop to their dramatic crooning.
"We initially wrote a rather different, rough version as a submission for another artist, but quickly realized it was ours and never pitched it," says Curtis of the single. "I got a voice note from Wolfy with a chorus she'd just written, and immediately called her and said it was perfect. I was a few hours away, and demanded they wait for me to work on it. I was freaking out over a voice note, and desperately wanted to work with them on it."
Reich adds, "Simon and Wolfy were instrumental in keeping me on track until the job was done, and I'm so excited for something I've been a part of to be out there in the world for people to hear and have an emotional reaction to."
"Fall Into Love," which was teased last week on Popjustice when the Wrathschild project was officially announced, will be available at digital retailers worldwide next Monday (Mar. 31), and an official music video is set to premiere in April. "Creating this project with these guys has been an incredible experience," says Curtis, who co-wrote the track with Wolfy and Reich. "I'd be so lucky to make a career of it."
